Sports & Recreation Working Group

Please bear with us whilst we work on updating our website. We will be continuing to add more information and update the working groups’ pages. If you are looking for some information whilst we are doing this please contact the office on 01764 670769 or cdt@comriedevelopment.org.uk

white-liningMuch work has been done to reinstate the sports pitches to allow local sports clubs to come together as a collective “Community Sports Hub” (based on a Scandanavian sports hub model that has been proven to be very successful in cutting down many aspects of duplication for sports clubs from health & safety to child protection etc).  As part of a “hub”, which is much more than Cultybraggan sports facilities, each sports club can apply for funding either as a group or as an individual club and will have the opportunity to apply for funding for training in areas such as coaching and First Aid etc.

Planning permission has been granted for phase one of the sports project which consists of the development of two grass sports pitches, a nissen hut for indoor sports, siting of two temporary buildings for changing facilities, formation of a curling pad and installation of portable flood lighting.  (see picture – click for a larger image). The reinstatement of the sports pitches will serve to complement the sports facilities the community already has at Laggan Park and The Strathearn Campus.

The group have  gained written support  and much practical help from the Perth & Kinross Council Sports Development Officer, The Sports Council and Sports Scotland and have visited the group responsible for the new sports pavilion in Dunning to gain an insight into the process they undertook to bring their plans to fruition.

Now that planning permission is in place the next stage is to secure funding. An application has been submitted to the Gannochy Trust for the purchase of changing facilities and temporary lighting and the working group are now moving forward in a positive manner in trying to deliver the sports and leisure facilities that the community has asked for.

If you would like to volunteer to help this working group, please contact the office – 01764 670769 or cdt@comriedevelopmenttrust.org.uk
