Cultybraggan Camp Development

In September 2007 this 90 acres of land on the edge of our village was purchased under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003

The Trust aims to develop the site as a model of sustainable development for rural communities across Scotland. The many facets of the project are progressed by a team of local volunteers and CDT staff who are dedicated to deliver all the lasting benefits for our village this asset can offer.

HUTS TO LET
Nine Nissen huts have been renovated to provide commercial accommodation. These unique units set in the wonderful surroundings of the Camp are let to an eclectic mix of people and businesses.  If you are interested in renting a hut, please contact our agent to arrange a viewing. There are also opportunities for repairing leases and other ways to get involved in the regeneration of the Camp.

The conversion of nine Nissen huts to make 12 units for local businesses was part of the first phase of development at the Camp which also saw major infrastructure works (drainage, electricity, water and telecoms) and the refurbishment of the central mess. Contracts were, wherever possible, awarded to local contractors and were completed on time and within budget all due to the hard work of those involved.

The creation of community allotments on site also happened at this time which are flourishing and now have a waiting list for plots!

ONGOING DEVELOPMENT

The completion of these initial works has allowed the Trust to progress a variety of projects at the Camp:

    • The Community Orchard was planted in March 2010. Find out more at the Orchard Working Group page.
    • A Biomass District Heating system is now operational and Solar PV has been installed on the roof of Building 109. Find out more at the Renewables Working Group page.

    • A Free Rent Scheme or “Repairing Lease” scheme has been set up to encourage involvement at the Camp.
    • In early 2014 we opened a Visitor Centre in Hut 1, the first Nissen Hut at the gate, to explore our local history and the ongoing development of the Camp. The Visitor Centre is also a demonstration building for insulation materials. Find out more at the Comrie Heritage Group page.
