The Woodland Group held its first Welcome Event at the Comrie Community Woodland on 12th September which was well attended by over 200 people plus many musicians performing from inside the new shelter. Thanks is due to the musicians who entertained the crowd all day whilst forest school leader Bryony Bainbridge ran woodland arts and craft activities from an amazing tent, and local artist Christine Ironside (Tejini) assisted children and adults to complete a large banner. The food from Hansen’s Kitchen and Wild Hearth was fantastic and woodland group volunteers (and roped in friends & family) produced a wide range of delicious home baking to satisfy everyone.
The wasps loved the drinks stall. Volunteers ran other activities, information and consultation stalls also attracted lots of interest. Throughout the day woodland group volunteers led nature walks around the newly planted woodland so that people could get a better sense of the woodland area and its potential. Our aim to run a minimum waste day was a success as we ended up with literally a handful of rubbish to dispose of at the end. Thanks to everyone for coming and to all the woodland group volunteers for making it happen. As ever the woodland is open for visitors to explore. We would be delighted to hear from anyone keen to get involved as a volunteer – for more information email woodland@comriedevtrust.org.uk
