Heinrich Steinmeyer Legacy
Interim Committee
Dear Comrie Resident,
Heinrich Steinmeyer was a prisoner of war at Cultybraggan Camp. In his Will he left everything he owned to Comrie for “elderly people.” He wanted to express his thanks “for the kindness and generosity” that he experienced in Scotland during his imprisonment and later. People in Comrie will gratefully respect his memory and wishes through our use of the £386,000, coming from the Will to benefit local older people.
This survey asks people in the community to say how they think the legacy funds should be used. Whether you are an older person, or in a different age group, please write your views in the space on page two. This will help make the best decisions about the legacy for local older people now and in the future.
The form should be completed by anybody of any age living at your address. So that everyone can complete their own survey form, extra forms are available from: The White Church; Post Office; Hansen’s Kitchen; Comrie Butcher’s; The Chemist; Comrie Parish Church; Comrie Medical Centre.
You are also invited to a public meeting in the White Church at 7.30 on Tuesday 14th March. People will get the chance to say how the legacy might be spent, hear other ideas, and discuss the different views. If you are coming to the public meeting, you may want to complete the survey form after that event.
If you need help with writing your views on the survey form, or transport to and from the public meeting, please phone: (01764) 671149 or e-mail: comrielegacy@gmail.com;
The Interim Committee plans to study all of the information and opinions from the survey forms, the public meeting, and any other discussions. The Committee will then produce a short report, which will be available to everyone in the village. This report will include the survey results and the different proposals people have made. There may then be a second consultation, so that people can choose between various options.
We hope that everyone in the village, who has an interest in how the legacy is used, will give their views
on the survey form, and consider coming to the public meeting to discuss the different possibilities.
Murray Lauchlan
Interim Committee Chair
